Jack Bennett: 13 Rocks to Building a Championship Program
Coach Jack Bennett coached basketball for 33 plus years in the state of Wisconsin before retiring in 2005. He culminated his career at UW-Stevens Point in 2004 and 2005 with the only NCAA DIII back-to-back National Championships as well as the winningest coach in university history.
In his presentation, Coach Bennett talks about coaching in today's game and shares his "13 Rocks" -- ideas and philosophies that will help you build your own championship program. His 13 Rocks fall under the categories of relationships, teaching, humility, discipline, identity, and perspective.
With these "13 Rocks", you will grasp the essentials of what it takes to build a championship culture within your program.

Coach Randy Brown, longtime Division I Head and Assistant Coach and current owner of CoachRB.com, shares his "5 Game-Changing Challenges for Coaches".
From how you teach skills and fundamentals to how you manage players and parents, Coach RB will challenge you in with ideas in areas that you may not often think about.Coach Brown will give you simple ideas to help your players more easily understand the game and what you are trying to teach. Dick Bennett: An After-Dinner Speech
Known throughout the basketball world as one of the game’s pre-eminent defensive coaches, Coach Bennett’s teams were often national leaders in scoring defense.
Dick Bennett spent 35 plus years teaching the game of basketball to young men in the state of Wisconsin with high school coaching stops in towns like West Bend and Eau Claire and college jobs in Stevens Point, Green Bay and Madison … racking up nearly 700 wins along the way! He led the Wisconsin Badgers to the 2000 Final Four and followed that up with a successful stint rebuilding the program at Washington State University.
At our Basketball Coaches Academy, Coach Bennett spoke following our VIP dinner. It was essentially a conversation with Dick Bennett. In this setting, Coach Bennett shares his wealth of knowledge and speaks on a variety of topics.
He discusses how faith was instrumental in developing his philosophy and shares his intangibles that make great coaches and players. He also discusses success and how it can be challenging to overcome.
Coach Bennett talks a lot on today's game and player ... how things have changed, how things have improved, but also how many things have worsened such as certain skills and emphasis on fundamentals.
He also shares are a few drills that will build toughness in your team and players and uses the whiteboard to draw up a few plays that will help your team.
This is a great presentation and a chance to learn a ton from a coach who understands what it takes to get the most out of yourself and your team.
Jim Boone: Pressure Pack Line Defense
Coach Jim Boone is currently the head coach of the Delta State University Statesman men's basketball program. Boone (438-328), a native of Winfield, W.V., brings 27 years of collegiate coaching experience to Delta State, including stops at the NCAA Division I and II levels. His career record speaks to his success on the hardwood, but his real niche has been at the NCAA DII level where he has posted a blistering 338-166 mark as a head coach.
As an expert on the Pack Line Defense, Coach Boone shares his in-depth knowledge of this fundamental man-to-man defense.
Coach Boone begins his presentation by sharing bits of coaching nuggets that he has learned throughout the years of coaching ... nuggets of wisdom that will make you a more successful coach! He progresses into explaining his 7 'rules' that you must incorporate into your team defense. Coach Boone moves into his Pressure Pack Line Defense by sharing the 3 key thoughts in order to understand and play this style of defense.
With on-court demonstrations, Coach Boone teaches how to effectively pressure the basketball, how this defense offers help-side defense, and how with the Pack Line you can influence they types of shots you want your opponent to take. Coach shares other important defensive concepts and ideas throughout the demonstrations and finishes by answering questions from the audience. He answers with additional how-to demonstrations and drills you can use to improve your team defense.
This presentation will give you a basis for building and having a shutdown man-to-man defense.
Tim Grosz: Motion Offense
Coach Tim Grosz is the associate director of athletics and head men’s basketball coach at Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Under Coach Grosz, Northwestern has made the past three D3 national tournaments which also correlates to their first 3 years of eligibility. First all-time at Northwestern for career wins (213) and carrer winning percentage (.653), Coach Grosz's teams have also won 9 UMAC titles in his 12 seasons as head coach.
Coach Grosz shares his principles of motion offense that will give you an understanding why motion offense is so effective and how it can help you win games, regardless of talent and ability. You will learn from Coach Grosz his reasons why to run a motion offense and keys to teaching it. Coach also goes into detail on 20 principles and keys to building a more effective and efficient motion offense.
His presentation ends with some on-court drills to build motion offense as several skill development drills with players that will help develop the skillset required to playing motion offense.
Larry McKenzie: Building a Championship Basketball Program
If anyone would know how to build a championship basketball program, it would be Coach Larry McKenzie! Coach McKenzie is the only coach to win four back-to-back state titles in the 100 year history of the Minnesota State Boys Basketball tournament. This coming fall, Larry A. McKenzie will once again roam the sidelines in the Minneapolis City Conference as the new head coach at North High School. Following his championship stint at Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis, Coach McKenzie was the General Manager and Head Coach of the Minnesota Ripknees of the American Basketball Association (A.B.A.) and recently rebuilt the program at Academy of Holy Angels.
Coach McKenzie presents his knowledge of building a championship basketball program by sharing what it takes to build a strong foundation. He discusses concepts that will help you learn to build champions on and off the court. You will learn from Coach McKenzie how to motivate yourself and your players by having the right mindset. He will give you tips and ideas for how you can build up your players and help instill confidence and character.
